United Kingdom-based convenience store chain Greggs is developing vegan versions of all its best-selling products. Though the new vegan products have yet to be revealed, the chain’s popular non-vegan items include steak bakes; sausage, bean, and cheese rolls; and beef and vegetable pasties. The move follows Greggs’ launch of a vegan sausage roll in January, which was so successful that the chain had to increase production to satisfy demand. The sausage roll—which features 96 layers of puff pastry surrounding a Quorn-based vegan sausage—was expanded to all 1,950 Greggs locations across the United Kingdom and attributed to the company’s surge in stock prices. “We are working away to see if we can come up with a version of all our best-selling lines because people want vegan options,” Greggs’ CEO Roger Whiteside told radio show LBC. “If we can produce something that tastes just as good as the meat version, then that will sell very successfully. That’s what’s been shown with the vegan sausage roll.” Last month, Whiteside revealed Greggs is also working on a vegan doughnut and plant-based milks but refused to go into further detail: “That would be giving away everything to our competitors.”
