Actress Ana Fabrega—co-creator and star of the new HBO show Los Espookys, a series about professional “scarers”—is a longtime vegan and recently revealed her eating habits to Eater. The actress, who plays “Tati” on the show, revealed that she has a sweet tooth, is not a fan of hot dogs (even of the veggie variety), and that the last thing she ate was bread in Paris. “We went to a bakery, and the only vegan stuff was bread,” Fabrega said. When the actress visits her sisters in Arizona, she dines at True Food Kitchen, which she says is one of the only spots in town with vegan options. “And then when I’m in Los Angeles, I always go to Cafe Gratitude, which is kind of goofy and a little overpriced, I think,” Fabrega said. “But they have a really great macro bowl. It’s the first place I go when I get there because I’m like, ‘I want to eat that macro bowl.’” The actress, who is of Panamanian descent, also revealed that her go-to comfort foods are white rice, black beans, and fried plantains, along with mushrooms prepared in a special way. “Cooking mushrooms with sesame oil has, like, changed my life. When I started adding sesame oil to my mushrooms, I was like, ‘Oh my god, why does everyone not do this?’” Fabrega said. “King oyster mushrooms with sesame oil: everybody should be eating them, and once they do, they are not going to stop.” Season one of Los Espookys—which, along with Fabrega, is created by Portlandia’s Fred Armisen and vegan comedian Julio Torres—is now streaming on HBO.
