KFC Sells One Million Vegan Chicken Burgers in the UK in January

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) sold one million vegan chicken burgers throughout the month of January at its United Kingdom locations—or the equivalent of one vegan burger every three seconds according to Veganuary. KFC UK first launched the vegan burger (then called “The Imposter” burger) at select UK outposts on June 17, 2019, and sold out of the burgers within four days. On January 2, KFC added the Vegan Burger—made with a Quorn filet coated with the Colonel’s Original Recipe herbs and spices, vegan mayonnaise, and lettuce, and served on a vegan bun—to the permanent menu at all 900 UK locations. To celebrate the milestone, KFC slashed the price of the Vegan Burger in half to £1.99 ($2.59) for a one-day deal it offered on February 1. Stateside, KFC added vegan Beyond Fried Chicken to the menu of one test location in Atlanta this summer and sold out of the new option in less than five hours. Today, the chain added Beyond Fried Chicken to nearly 70 KFC locations in Charlotte, NC, Nashville, TN, and surrounding areas.
