This week, vegan company Daring Foods partnered with foodservice provider Brakes Scotland to bring its vegan meat products to businesses across the country. According to Brakes, demand for vegan meat has increased by 300 percent thus far in 2019 making its partnership with Daring Foods a potentially profitable move. “Daring Foods will be an exciting addition to our range,” Brakes Operations Director John McLintock said. “Vegan and plant-based products are on the rise, and we want to continually offer our customers innovative products that meet current market trends. Daring Foods’ products will hit all mealtimes and will have extremely broad appeal.” The partnership will make Daring Foods’ products—such as vegan chicken nuggets, ground meat, and burgers—available to Brakes’ network of 8,900 restaurants, schools, pubs, and hotels across the United Kingdom. “This is the largest vegan range we have listed from one supplier,” McLintock said. “With the expertise of Daring Foods available in terms of training and their unique point of sale and branding, this will help caterers who are struggling to find a fantastic vegan offering.” Earlier this year, Daring Foods founder Ross Mackay announced the company’s goal of selling £7 million ($9 million) worth of vegan meat products in 2019, a goal he aimed to achieve with the help of the company’s hen ambassador “Kim Kardashi-hen.” By 2020, Daring Foods aims to serve its vegan products to the equivalent of 10 percent of the United Kingdom’s population to further propel the region’s shift toward plant-based foods. “This is just the beginning. The response to our products has been phenomenal—even the most militant meat-eaters struggle to tell the difference,” Mackay said. “Plant-based options aren’t just for alternative cafés anymore. They are for everyone and this distribution deal proves this.”
