Ride-sharing company Lyft recently modified its high-end Premier car service requirements to include vehicles with vegan interiors. The company previously allowed drivers to participate in the Premier service—where customers pay a higher rate for a luxury ride—only if their vehicles had leather interiors. However, Lyft CEO Logan Green decided to lift the requirement after receiving a letter from animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) asking him to consider vegan options. “By expanding the seating parameters for its luxury vehicles to include vegan materials, Lyft is driving its eco-friendly business even further into the future,” PETA said in an online statement. “PETA can now point ethically minded consumers to Lyft as a company that demonstrates compassion for animals and the planet.” Several high-end car companies—including Tesla and Ferrari—have recently introduced vegan interior options.
