Vegan hot dogs and burger patties are now served at concession stands at United Center in Chicago—home to the Chicago Bulls, Blackhawks, and many concerts and other events— thanks to a multi-year deal the arena signed with Greenleaf Foods, a subsidiary of Canadian meat company Maple Leaf Foods, which owns vegan brand Lightlife Foods and Field Roast Grain Meat Co. The new Lightlife Burger is served with lettuce, tomato, ] American cheese, and secret sauce (the cheese and sauce are dairy-based), while the Field Roast Frankfurter is topped with green relish, chopped onions, sliced tomato, sport peppers, mustard and celery salt. Both bun options are not vegan as they contain butter but concession stands can substitute lettuce for the buns. “Our top priority is the guest experience at the United Center and a key ingredient to elevate our dining experience is partnering with top brands like Lightlife and Field Roast to diversify food options guests have access to,” Kevin O’Brien, Director of Food & Beverage at United Center, said. “Whether guests are visiting for the first time or returning, this expansion of our plant-based offerings provides a new way to take our games, concerts, and all events to the next level.” Greenleaf also partnered with Indianapolis’ Bankers Life Field House to bring similar options to the stadium, growing its roster of major sports arenas, which includes Los Angeles’ Memorial Coliseum, Arlington’s Globe Life Park, and Chicago’s Soldier Field.
