Online directory The Nile List recently launched to help connect consumers to Black-owned businesses. Founder Khadijah Robinson created the online community with millennial consumers in mind—with features that filter results based on interests, including “vegan,” “natural,” and “handmade”—to best facilitate support for Black businesses.

“I want to find new and innovative ways to make buying Black normalized and part of people’s daily routine,” Robinson told MarketWatch. “Supporting black-owned business is a small piece, but it’s something that people can do consistently, even when people are not protesting anymore.”

Currently, The Nile List has 207 businesses under the “vegan” category. In the beauty category, consumers can shop Bathe Brand (which makes bathing teas, anointing oils, body sprays, and bath soaks); 25th and June (a vegan nail polish brand); and A Plus Fitness (makers of a hemp oil-based muscle rub). In the vegan food and beverage category, The Nile List currently features 24 listings, including Char’s Cookie Jar (a baking company with a vegan cookie line); Danny D’s Delicacies (a dessert shop that offers a line of vegan cookies, cinnamon rolls, and cupcakes); and Dipalicious (a United Kingdom-based vegan dip company founded by chef Omari McQueen when he was only 10 years old).

The Nile List also allows shoppers to sort businesses by categories such as “Woman Owned,” “LGBTQ owned,” “Youth Involved,” and “Immigrant Owned.” Businesses can submit listings to be included on The Nile List, which then checks to ensure applicants are Black-owned before posting.

VegNews has also created a list of Black-owned vegan businesses to help our readers support the Black Lives Matter movement with their consumer dollars.
