NJ One Step Closer to Gestation Crate Elimination
Nine states have already made gestation crates illegal, and pending the approval of the state senate and governor, New Jersey may be the 10th.

The fight against gestation crates has achieved another victory after a New Jersey state Assembly voted 60 to 5 to pass a law that will force farms to supply pigs with cages large enough that the animals can stand up, turn around, and extend their limbs. The bill has to be agreed upon by the state Senate and then approved by governor Chris Christie. Nine US states as well as the European Union have already outlawed gestation crates. “New Jersey’s decision is further evidence that these cruel systems have no future,” says Farm Sanctuary Senior Director for Strategic Initiatives Bruce Friedrich. “Cramming animals into crates so small that they can’t even turn around is horribly abusive. These systems have no place in a just society.”
