Vegan actress Edie Falco and vegan Olympic soccer player Kara Lang Romero are standing up for cows this Mother’s Day by demanding that Nestlé shift toward plant-based ice cream. In April, animal-rights organization Compassion Over Killing (COK) released shocking undercover footage of mother cows being stomped, stabbed, and beaten and calves being burnt with hot irons to prevent horn growth at Martin Farms in Pennsylvania, a Nestlé supplier. “Nestlé, show kindness to mother cows and their babies. Ditch dehorning and churn out vegan options,” Falco and Romero sent to the company in a Facebook message, urging fans to do the same. A petition to support COK’s campaign has been signed by more than 17,000 people. A longtime vegetarian, Falco was inspired to go vegan in 2017 after working with animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), stating: “It’s hard to justify working for animal-rights when you eat animal-based foods.”
