Ethical shoe brand nat-2 recently developed a vegan sneaker made with cannabis leaves. The unisex shoe—which is handmade in an ethical factory in Italy—features an upper made with leaves from sustainaly grown hemp and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, cork insoles, and is held together with water-based vegan glue. “Only industrial hemp plants are used. No drugs or THC (the psychoactive part of marijuana) included. nat-2 nor [do] its retailers support drugs and the use of drugs in any way,” the company stated. “The intention of using cannabis leaves is to show alternatives to animal ingredients and the wide range of possibilities in the use of hemp plants in order to save the planet and create awareness by finding new ways in the fashion industry and production.” To showcase other vegan possibilities, nat-2 previously created shoes from repurposed coffee grounds, mushrooms, and moss.
