This week, Vegan Bolognese Style Pasta Sauce was spotted at Trader Joe’s. The new tomato-based sauce is made with pea protein-based vegan meat crumbles and features the savory flavors of the traditional, slow-cooked Italian meat sauce minus the wine typically used in bolognese recipes. First spotted by Instagrammer @thesnacksoflife, the new vegan bolognese pasta sauce is making its way to Trader Joe’s shelves now and customers should contact their local store to check for availability.
Trader Joe’s launched a non-vegan bolognese sauce earlier this year and its new meaty vegan product is part of the grocery chain’s aim to stock more plant-based alternatives alongside its existing products.
Vegan at Trader Joe’s
During a January episode of Trader Joe’s podcast “Inside Trader Joe’s,” the store’s insiders explained that the chain is actively working to increase its vegan options in all categories and it’s making good on that promise. Last year, the chain launched next-level vegan meat patties in turkey and beef flavors to give shoppers more meatless options in the refrigerated section, where it now also stocks Vegan Mac and Cheese; a line of vegan cheese shreds and slices in cheddar and mozzarella flavors; a Vegan Taco Salad Kit complete with chipotle-spice seitan pieces and vegan ranch; and two new vegan dips in tzatziki and caramelized onion flavors. For dessert, Trader Joe’s recently debuted a vegan milk chocolate bar made with its Almond Beverage and vegan Cheeseless Cheesecakes in the frozen aisle.
And even more options are on the way according to Amy Gaston-Morales, Category Manager of Deli, Frozen Meat, Seafood, Meatless, and Fresh Beverage at Trader Joe’s. Currently, the chain is developing plant-based seafood options, along with new iterations of its vegan meats and additional plant-based frozen meals.
