Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle recently welcomed baby boy Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. “I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning, a very healthy baby boy,” Prince Harry said earlier this week. “I haven’t been at many births. This is definitely my first birth. It was amazing, absolutely incredible, and, as I said, I’m so incredibly proud of my wife.” Before Archie was born, it was reported that Markle wanted to raise the child vegan. “Meghan wants her baby to be raised a vegan,” an unnamed “palace insider” told media outlet Woman’s Day. The royal couple had also planned to deliver their child in the vegan-friendly Mulberry Suite inside the Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, and used vegan paint to decorate Archie’s nursery in their home of Frogmore Cottage—while also choosing a gender-neutral color palette of white and gray. Whether or not the baby will be vegan is unconfirmed, however, 37-year-old Markle adheres to a plant-based diet during the week while Prince Harry has been eating less meat and more fruit and vegetables, according to media outlet News.com.au. Meghan is a known advocate of sustainable living. When she was a full-time actress, she told magazine Best Health: “When I’m filming, I’m conscious of what I eat. I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends.” The Duchess has also turned heads with her ethical wardrobe, often choosing to appear publicly wearing faux fur and vegan leather. Soon after the birth announcement, animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent baby Archie a wool-free cardigan made of cotton and bamboo from Bramble Crafts.
