On December 9, vegan fast-casual chain Veggie Grill is launching DIY Tamale Kits. The holiday kit ($49.95) includes everything you need to make and serve 12 tamales, including:

  • Prepared tamale masa
  • Corn husks
  • Chile cheese tamale filling
  • Mushroom mole tamale filling
  • Salsa verde
  • Sour cream
  • Mole sauce
  • Pickled onions
  • Preparation instructions

There is also a “Make It a Meal” add-on package ($17.95) that serves four and includes Ranchero Beans, Spanish Rice, and Catalina Taco Salad. The chain created the kits so that Veggie Grill fans can make tamales for a festive holiday meal at home, gift the kits to foodie friends and family, or make and freeze the tamales for future meals.

New holiday traditions

“Veggie Grill’s mission is to help people begin, advance, and embrace their plant-based journey,” Veggie Grill Co-founder T.K. Pillan told VegNews. “This year we created the DIY Tamale Kit to take the stress out of cooking and give families staying home during COVID-19 a fun way to put together a delicious holiday meal with a twist, all while allowing people to enjoy themselves and take care of the planet.”

The DIY Tamale Kits are available until December 31 for same-day pickup at all Veggie Grill locations and for delivery via DoorDash, Postmates, and UberEats (the cost via delivery platforms is $66.55 for the kit and $23.95 for the add-on package).
