Pizza Hut Just Added Beyond Meat’s Vegan Sausage to All 450 Locations in Canada

Today, Pizza Hut is adding Beyond Meat Italian Sausage Crumbles as a permanent menu item at all 450 Pizza Hut Canada locations nationwide. The move is the pizzeria’s latest effort to meet the growing demand for plant-based protein options. 

The vegan meat was exclusively created for Pizza Hut Canada in partnership with Beyond Meat and is featured on three menu items: The Great Beyond (a specialty pizza topped with Beyond Italian Sausage Crumbles, vegetable toppings that include sliced red onions and banana peppers, and served on any Pizza Hut crust); Beyond Italian Sausage Alfredo Loaded Flatbread (a crispy flatbread topped with Beyond Italian Sausage Crumbles, roasted red peppers, and dairy-based alfredo sauce and mozzarella cheese); and Beyond Creamy Alfredo (a dairy-based pasta alfredo dish layered with Beyond Italian Sausage Crumbles, onions, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese). 

The Beyond Italian Sausage Crumbles can also be added as a topping to any existing or build-your-own pizza offerings of any size. All pizza dough bases, including the flatbread, in Canada contain whey powder or gelatin except for the frozen pan pizza, and the pizzeria does not yet offer vegan cheese options.

Vegan sausage becomes permanent topping at Pizza Hut Canada

The vegan sausage was first trialled at select Pizza Hut Canada locations in Toronto and Edmonton last summer, becoming the first vegan meat option at Pizza Hut in the country. “After seeing great excitement from Pizza Hut fans across Toronto and Edmonton last summer, we’re beyond thrilled to give Canadian fans everywhere the opportunity to try and fall in love with these Beyond Meat menu items,” Amy Rozinsky, Head of Consumer Marketing at Pizza Hut Canada, said in a statement. “Pizza Hut and Beyond Meat have a shared vision to innovate new and exciting products that will delight our guests. Beyond Italian Sausage Crumbles offer a delicious plant-based twist on our classic pork sausage that you’ll have to taste to believe.”

To promote the new options, Pizza Hut is giving away free medium-sized Great Beyond Pizzas. For a chance to win, the chain is asking customers to post a comment on the company’s Instagram sharing their “little flexes in life” such as finally finding a sock at the bottom of the drawer or successfully parallel parking in one attempt. 

Until January 30, Pizza Hut is also offering a Buy One, Get One deal which allows Canadians to try pizzas topped with the vegan sausage at no additional cost when they purchase a regular-priced medium or large pizza.

Vegan meat at Pizza Huts worldwide

This national launch is part of a larger global strategic partnership between Yum! Brands—the parent company of Pizza Hut—and Beyond Meat to create plant-based protein menu items to meet the growing consumer demand. Canada is the second market to permanently offer Beyond Meat menu items nationally. After a successful trial of Beyond Meat Pizzas in the UK last year, Pizza Hut brought them back as a permanent menu option at all Pizza Hut UK Delivery locations in July 2021.

Stateside, Pizza Hut tested two Beyond Pan Pizzas at all traditional locations and participating Pizza Hut Express locations in 2020, and in 2021 the chain added Beyond Meat vegan pepperoni to the menu of nearly 70 locations in five cities across the United States for a limited time.
