Supermarket chain Albertsons Companies—which operates in 35 states under various names, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, and Jewel-Osco—recently debuted a line of private-labeled foods with a “Certified Plant Based” seal at 2,200 stores nationwide. The newly branded products—which are also certified organic—were created in partnership with trade group Plant Based Foods Association. “With the launch of these new Certified Plant Based foods, Albertsons is delivering to consumers the plant-based options they are seeking,” PBFA Senior Director of Retail Partnerships Julie Emmett said. “We are thrilled to partner with Albertsons Cos. on their launch, applaud them for their leadership, and look forward to a strong relationship to continue to meet consumer demand for plant-based foods.” Competing grocery chain Kroger is also making progress in the plant-based direction with a recent announcement introducing a variety of plant-based products—from Black Forest Ham deli slices to chocolate chip cookie dough—to its own private-labeled Simple Truth brand on a monthly basis this fall and throughout 2020.
