On November 15, vegan corned beef from Mrs. Goldfarb’s Unreal Deli will debut in the Denver-area locations of fast-food chain Quiznos, VegNews can exclusively reveal. The vegan meat—available at the chain for a limited time—will be featured on a new Plant-Based Corned Beef sandwich, along with pickles, sauerkraut, dairy-based Swiss cheese, and honey French dressing on a Quiznos bun of choice. To make it vegan, customers can order the sandwich without the cheese and honey French dressing on a white or wheat bun. This is the first plant protein on Quiznos’ menus, and, if successful, it will be rolled out to locations nationwide. “Given consumers’ growing desire for meatless options and the rise of plant-based foods, we wanted to test this modern twist on a deli classic here in Denver where sustainable green lifestyles are thriving,” Sheila Zimmerman, vice president of marketing for Quiznos’ parent company REGO Restaurant Group, said. “Mrs. Goldfarb’s Unreal Deli is a delicious alternative to traditional deli meat and a perfect brand fit.” On November 17—two days after the Quiznos launch—Unreal Deli founder Jenny Goldfarb will appear on investment reality show Shark Tank, where she will attempt to entice one or more of the “sharks” (investors) to partner with her fast-growing family business. Within her first year of business, Goldfarb expanded the distribution of her vegan corned beef to 58 Whole Foods Markets in the Southern Pacific Region as well as select traditional delis and grocery stores in Los Angeles. The Unreal Deli vegan corned beef now ships nationwide and will be available in major grocery chains by 2020.
