Following a peaceful demonstration led by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) in Boston and more than 38,000 individual emails sent to hospital leadership, Massachusetts General Hospital has announced that it will end its use of sheep in Advanced Trauma Life Support courses. “Given the status and reputation of Mass General in the medical community, this is a monumental achievement,” PCRM says of the hospital’s commitment. “This decision by one of the world’s most prominent hospitals supports the superiority of medical simulation—rather than live animals—for trauma training.”
