Impossible Foods “on Track” to Make Plant-Based Bacon

California-based food technology company Impossible Foods is currently working to perfect plant-based bacon. During an interview with CNET at trade show Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this month, Impossible Foods CEO Pat Brown was asked if the company intended to produce plant-based bacon. “Of course we are, and in fact, we’ve already played around with it,” Brown responded. “We’re not going to release a bacon product until we feel like anyone who is the most hardcore bacon worshiper thinks it’s awesomely delicious. But we’re definitely on track. It’s going to be an epic moment when we serve the first kosher bacon cheeseburger,” During CES, Impossible Foods—known for its beefy Impossible Burger—unveiled its newest product: Impossible Pork, which will be tested as part of a Croissan’wich breakfast sandwich at select Burger King locations later this month. Ultimately, Impossible Foods’ goal is to create plant-based alternatives for every animal product, including shrimp, dairy, and fish, by 2035. Competing brand Beyond Meat is also working on its own version of vegan bacon, and while a release date has yet to be announced, company CEO Ethan Brown stated in a July interview with Bloomberg that the bacon is “improving as it goes through development.”
