Vegan restaurateur Ravi DeRossi recently filed for a new liquor license for Dollface, a 24-hour vegan diner that will occupy the space of vacant bar Virage in the East Village neighborhood of New York City. Dollface is still in its preliminary stages but DeRossi imagines the menu will consist of pastries, milkshakes, and vegan egg creams. DeRossi first teased the concept in 2017 when he announced his plans to open 12 vegan eateries, possibly venturing outside of NYC, in the coming years. In 2016, DeRossi vowed to transition as many of his then 15 restaurant holdings to be completely vegan to align with his own lifestyle. Since then, the restaurateur rebranded several of his eateries—such as Ladybird (previously cheese-centric Bourgeois Pig) and Mother of Pearl. DeRossi also removed animal products from his Cuban-inspired restaurant Cienfuegos, which he is currently reworking into new vegan Texas barbeque eatery Honeybee’s. Once Dollface is opened, it will become the fourth DeRossi-owned vegan restaurant in the East Village, joining Ladybird, Avant Garden, and Fire & Ice—a dual concept separated by a glass wall that features sushi on one side and dim-sum on the other.
