Today, Nestlé unveiled its newest products: vegan cheese and vegan bacon—both made to complement its existing vegan Awesome Burger which debuted under its vegetarian Sweet Earth brand at select retailers Safeway, Wegmans, Hy-Vee, and Shop & Stop, with a full national rollout to follow in the coming weeks. Nestlé’s new vegan cheese is made from a combination of soy protein, oils, and yeasts, while the vegan bacon is made from a base of soy, wheat, and pea protein. The burger, bacon, and cheese will first be offered to restaurant partners and foodservice professionals as a “PB triple play” package, allowing them to create an all-vegan bacon cheeseburger. “More and more consumers are looking for delicious, nutritious, and sustainable plant-based options when they dine out. We have now raised the bar by developing a ‘PB triple play’ of ingredients for an all-time classic: the bacon cheeseburger,” Nestlé CEO Mark Schneider said. “We’re continuing to make good on our promise to offer consumers food that is right for them and right for the planet.” The company developed the new plant-based products in an effort to accelerate its goal of achieving zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, an initiative that includes the introduction of more plant-based foods and beverages into Nestlé’s product portfolio.
