Ahead of opening its second Brooklyn location in Crown Heights, Screamer’s Pizzeria revealed that it sells 1,500 slices daily. Named after the sizzling sound that mushrooms make on a grill, Screamer’s—a collaboration between the teams behind Brooklyn vegan Champs Diner and Philadelphia’s legendary vegan shop Blackbird Pizzeria—opened in the Greenpoint neighborhood in 2016 as Brooklyn’s first vegan pizzeria. The new, 1,800-square-foot location will seat 30 guests and serve classics such as Sicilian-style Grandma Pie, Buffalo Cauliflower, Baked Ziti, Italian meatball and eggplant parmesan sub sandwiches, and fried lasagna sticks. The shop will also feature special pizzas topped with mac and cheese, chik’n and curly fries, and Philly cheesesteak. “Vegan food can be accessible to everyone. We think it should be available all over and cater to a variety of cravings and needs,” Screamer’s marketing manager Aimee Kuge said. “Slice shops are such an institution here. We’re proud to be New York’s ultimate spot to grab a vegan slice for three years running and can’t wait to grow in a bigger space that welcomes even more people to chow down.” In October, the restaurant group behind Screamer’s and Champs opened vegan diner Hartbreakers in the Bushwick neighborhood as a space that promotes social justice and animal rights.
