Chicago-based coffee brand Intelligentsia is entering the ready-to-drink (RTD) category with a line of fully vegan beverages. In 2016, the brand was the first American business to offer Oatly vegan milk as an option at its coffee shops—and the oat milk now makes up 13 percent of Intelligentsia’s drink orders. To give customers what they desire, Intelligentsia chose to launch its RTD line with two Oatly-based lattes (Oat Latte and Spiced Oat Latte, which features notes of vanilla, ginger, cinnamon, and orange) along with Cold Brew Coffee. “One thing we said during the process of creating our ready-to-drink beverages was that we didn’t want to put drinks on the market just to keep up with everyone else, we wanted to enter this category with outstanding offerings that showcase Intelligentsia’s dedication to quality,” James McLaughlin, CEO of Intelligentsia Coffee, said.

Intelligentsia’s first RTD line is available online now on the brand’s website and at coffee bar locations in Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; and New York City, NY for $3.99 per 11-ounce tetrapack.

Vegan lattes for all

Intelligentsia’s new lattes are not the only oat milk-based RTD options on the market. In September 2019, coffee brand La Colombe launched its RTD oat milk lattes at its 30 cafés and at select retailers before expanding the lattes—made with Chobani’s oat milk and available in Original, Vanilla, and Caramel flavors—to 1,500 Target stores last year.
