Today, vegetarian brand Amy’s Kitchen announced it will open a new production facility in Goshen, NY. The new plant will bring up to 680 jobs to the area and produce items such as Amy’s vegan pizzas, burritos, and pasta products. In 1987, Rachel and Andy Berliner began building the Amy’s brand—named after their newborn daughter—out of the couple’s kitchen. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and state Senator Chuck Schmuer were in attendance as the Berliners broke ground on the new facility. “As one of the largest development projects in the Mid-Hudson region in decades, this project will create hundreds of good jobs, boost the manufacturing industry, and generate major economic opportunities for the local community,” Governor Cuomo said about the 389,000-square-foot-facility which will begin production in 2021. “As we searched for a new production site on the East Coast, we wanted to find a community that would complement our mission and values and found the community of Goshen to be both welcoming and enthusiastic about Amy’s Kitchen,” the Berliners told VegNews. “We are pleased to contribute to the local economy in Goshen and help this area continue to thrive.” Amy’s new production plant will eventually become LEED certified and run with renewable energy, bringing even more business for East Coast organic farmers from whom it will source many of its ingredients. This year, the brand expanded its vegan pizza line to include flavors such as Gluten Free Vegan Meatless Pepperoni, Vegan Supreme, and Vegan Pesto & Roasted Artichoke. In addition to its retail products, Amy’s operates fast-food eateries in Northern California. In 2015, the first Amy’s Drive-Thru opened to much fanfare in Rohnert Park serving pizza, burgers, mac and cheese, sides, and milkshakes, which can all be made vegan upon request. The company plans to open additional drive-through restaurants in Corte Madera, Walnut Creek, and at Terminal 1 in the San Francisco International Airport this year, with further locations planned for 2020.
