McDonald’s recently launched a vegan-friendly burger across its Norway locations. The Veggie McSpice (made vegan by ordering without cheese) features a vegan bun, tomatoes, lettuce, chargrilled tomato sauce, and a red kidney-bean based patty that’s spiced with cayenne, tomato powder, and cumin. McDonald’s previously released vegan-friendly burger options in several other countries including South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Despite its own 2016 report that revealed only one in five millennials has ever sampled McDonald’s signature Big Mac, the fast food giant has yet to release a vegan burger in the US. Meanwhile, competitor brand White Castle recently debuted the Black Bean Slider, the second vegan burger option available at the nationwide fast-food restaurant.
